According to a recent report by The Athletic, the driver involved in the incident where Liverpool fans were hit by a car while celebrating their Premier League victory is facing a total of 24 new charges. The driver, identified as 53-year-old Paul Doyle, appeared via video link at Liverpool Royal Court on Thursday to confirm the new charges related to the attack, as well as one charge of disturbing public order.

The court learned that some of the new charges involve victims who were infants at the time of the incident, with one being only 6 months old and another 7 months old. Doyle appeared in court visibly emotional and took deep breaths during the proceedings.

In addition to the 23 new charges related to the attack, Doyle had previously been charged with two counts of causing intentional harm and two counts of causing serious bodily harm. He also faces two charges of attempted serious bodily harm and dangerous driving.

The incident took place on May 26, when a Ford Galaxy multipurpose vehicle collided with over 100 pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool as the football players and staff were celebrating their championship win, resulting in 50 people needing hospitalization.

Doyle's defense attorney successfully argued that he could not adequately analyze the evidence against him as the prosecution provided the charges only on the day before his previous court appearance, leading to the rescheduling of the plea hearing on Thursday. He is set to appear in Liverpool Royal Court for the rescheduled plea hearing on September 4, followed by a trial lasting three to four weeks beginning on November 28 for Doyle from Liverpool Derby. The hearing brought to light the severity of the charges facing Doyle and the emotional impact the incident has had on the victims and their families, with the legal process set to unfold in the coming months to seek justice and closure for all parties involved.
